At the heart of our school is the Commons Curriculum- an original, custom curriculum developed by our founder and Lead Educator exclusively for the International Commons School. The curriculum grew out of more than 15 years of experience working with children and families across diverse educational settings, both locally and internationally, alongside years of work in the arts and community building. Together, these experiences shaped an approach to early learning rooted in the belief that some of the children’s richest learning happens when education, relationships, creativity and the world around them come together.
At The International Commons School, children learn not only from their teachers but from the people, cult ures, places, and experiences that surround them. Throughout the year, children explore countries, cultures, languages, traditions, music, art, food, geography, wildlife, and daily life through immersive experiences and authentic community partnerships. The curriculum is rooted in the belief that education should cultivate curiosity, compassion, empathy, leadership, and a lifelong love of learning.

Children aren’t choosing between academic learning and experiential learning. They are mastering foundational skills through experiences that give those skills meaning.
Academic concepts such as language and literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, engineering, the arts, and physical development are intentionally woven into these experiences rather than taught as isolated subjects. Children encounter and apply these concepts naturally through inquiry, storytelling, cooking, music, movement, nature exploration, collaborative projects, dramatic play, and hands-on investigations that reflect real-world experiences.
